Coastal erosion and elemental forces are the main focus of Emma’s work. She obtains strength and reassurance from the sea; the sensual diversity and contentment of experience remind her of early childhood. The volatility of the coastal plain becomes a metaphor of the tensions and vulnerability of human experience. Essences of the sublime and solitude, together with the vastness of open expanses, heighten her senses. She responds emotionally to place, utilising a full breadth of medium and mark making.
